Hypnotherapy in Sheffield

Would you like to be more relaxed, healthier, confident or happy?

Paul Peace and Karen Bartle run a successful Sheffield-based hypnotherapy practice and are variously members of the National Council for Hypnotherapy, General Hypnotherapy Register, British Psychological Society and Hypnotherapy Association.

Hypnotherapy can be used to tackle many issues including weight loss, stress, anxiety, panic, phobia, smoking cessation, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and sleep problems.

Hypnotherapy is a relaxing, pleasant experience. It is safe and has no side effects. Hypnotherapy is a powerful way to tackle unconscious problems. Habits are an example of something that has become automated in the unconscious mind.

Some habits are good. For example, it is useful for experienced drivers to not have to worry about every detail when driving, such as gears, brakes, steering, etc. If these things become unconscious and automated, the driver can then concentrate on what really matters - the road. It can be difficult to learn new habits but once in place they can be useful and lasting.

However, this stubbornness is not helpful with bad habits such as smoking, poor eating habits, etc. The state of hypnosis allows the hypnotherapist to offer suggestions for change of habits at this deep-rooted unconscious level.

Hypnotherapy is also useful for issues where emotions, fears and memories are the root cause. Emotions, fears and memories reside mostly in the unconscious mind, surfacing to consciousness only here and there, often in inappropriate ways and at inappropriate times. Because they reside at a deep unconscious level, it is best to tackle them at this level by using hypnotherapy.

Anyone with a phobia, for example, can tell you they already know at a conscious level how silly they feel; how irrational it is. Yet somehow, they feel unable to control their unconscious fear as it surfaces. Hypnotherapy can tackle this. Someone wanting to lose weight or stop smoking knows in the rational, conscious part of their mind that they are eating unhealthily or smoking, yet their unconscious mind continues to pester and resist efforts to change.

It is impossible to predict with any certainty how long a course of treatment will be. Everyone has different problems, different complexes of interrelated problems, different levels of motivation, etc. However, we can provide a rough guide. A course of hypnotherapy typically takes 3-6 x 1 hour sessions. On occasion, 2 sessions are sufficient with a tightly defined problem. A single session is a typical model for light smokers. Occasionally, for some issues, more than 6 sessions are required. Only in the most severe cases, such as clinical depression and multiple trauma, would 8+ sessions sometimes be required. Hypnotherapy is therefore one of the briefest therapies available.

People travel to see us from a wide area, including Leicester and Leeds, as well as our local towns, such as Barnsley, Rotherham, Dronfield, Chesterfield and Wakefield. We conduct all our hypnotherapy in Sheffield, at our practice in Totley.

So, if you are looking for a hypnotherapist in Sheffield we hope to hear from you soon.
